Clean Sweep Weekend for Rivermen

After picking up 4 points the weekend prior, the Langley Rivermen were in for a big test this weekend when they played 3 games in 3 days and were looking to keep the good times rolling against some of the league’s toughest opponents.

It all got started Friday night as the final meeting of the season at the Poirier Sports and Leisure Complex between the Rivermen and the Coquitlam Express would take place.

This is always a tough building for Langley to play in as the Express like to use the shorter ice to their advantage but on this night it would be the Rivermen getting the better of Coquitlam walking away with a 6-2 victory.

Gavin Payne notched another multi point game(2 goals) and McKay Flannagan, Max Kaufman, Angus Crookshank and Cooper Leitch also tallied for Langley in the win.

It was a rematch for the Rivermen on Saturday night when the fellas welcomed the Chilliwack Chiefs to the Lodge.  The last time these 2 teams met was 2 weeks prior at the Prospera Centre in Chilliwack where the Chiefs had their way with Langley upsetting them with a score of 8-1.  The Rivermen would be looking for a response to this.

Langley came into the game on a 3 game win streak and the Chiefs a 9 game win streak so something had to give.

It was a sluggish start for the hometown Rivermen who found themselves down 2-1 early in the contest but Bo Didur and company would hunker down and score 5 straight goals en route to a 6-2 victory on home ice ending the Chiefs winning streak.

As frustration set in for Chilliwack so came the fisticuffs and Langley was equal to the task.

Zac Masson lead the way with a 2 goal night and Ryan Barrow, Francis Boie, Max Kaufman and Brendan Budy rounded off the scoring in the victory.

3 games in 3 days wrapped up with a Sunday afternoon tilt and the final regular season meeting between these two teams when the Powell River Kings skated into town.

The Kings, much like the Chiefs the prior night, came into the contest riding a 9 game winning streak.  Langley was looking to play spoiler for the 2nd night in a row and complete the sweep of the weekend games.

Ask and you shall receive for Rivnation fans as this was a tight game on the scoreboard after 40 minutes of play with Langley holding a 2-1 edge before the Rivermen would explode offensively in the final 20 minutes adding 3 goals and Powell River was only able to muster 1 against Bo Didur in the 3rd and Langley extends their win streak to 5 games with a 5-2 victory.

5 different scorers found the back of the net on Sunday afternoon. Max Kaufman, Angus Crookshank, Gavin Payne, Eric Butte and John Schuldt found the back of the net.

The busy stretch of games will continue for the Rivermen this week when they host the Wenatchee Wild on Wednesday night at the Lodge at 7:15PM followed with a short trip out to the South Surrey Arena for a meeting with the Surrey Eagles on Thursday night at 6:30PM.  Tickets available for Wednesday’s matchup can be purchased ahead of time and beat the line by emailing tickets@langleyrivermen.com.

As for now, you’re up to date.  See you at the rink.
