First Ever BCHL Affiliate Draft

Township of Langley, BC, Tuesday October 3rd, 2011 :  On Monday October 3rd, the BCHL held its first ever Affiliate Draft , which gave teams a chance to select fifteen year old players for the purpose of Affiliation during the 2011-2012 BCHL season. The draft contained two rounds in which each team had the opportunity to select one player per round (picks were not mandatory as the draft itself was optional).  The Langley Rivermen held the 10th and 26th picks of the draft and used those selections for the following two players:

Ryan Simpson , Forward,  10th overall:  At 6’2”, 180 pounds, Ryan is a centre from Abbotsford, BC and plays for the Fraser Valley Bruins of the BC Major Midget League.

Rivermen Assistant Coach Jordan Emmerson like what he has seen from Ryan, “he is a big forward that skates well and is an overall good athlete; he is also a great kid who has good offensive ability and a bright future ahead”. So far this season in Abbotsford, Ryan has played in four games for the Bruins and has eight penalty minutes.

Dalton Yorke, Defense, 26th overall– At 6’0”, 175 pounds, Dalton is a defensemen from Maple Ridge, BC and plays for the Vancouver North East Chiefs of the BC Major Midget League.

“Dalton is a great kid and a steady defensemen who has good Hockey sense to go along with it," Assistant Coach, and former BCHL defenseman, Bobby Henderson has become a big fan of Dalton's ability, "we will continue to develop him and look to in the near future”.

Yorke has picked up two assists in two games for the Chiefs so far this season.

Both Yorke and Simpson should have the chance to earn their spot for next year at some point this season.
