Rivermen Gameday: Spruce Kings @ Rivermen

The Langley Rivermen hope they start their 2016 home schedule the same way they finished 2015. The Langley Events Centre proved to be a tough venue for visitors to pick up wins, as the Rivermen won three games in a row in a span of 3 days from December 18-20. The victories were even more impressive considering they were without starting goaltender Bo Didur and top goal scorer Justin Fregona, who were taking part in the World Junior “A” Challenge.

Despite the team’s recent success at home, the Riv are coming off a loss coming into this afternoon as they dropped a 2-1 decision in Chilliwack on December 30. For the Spruce Kings, they were in action last night in Coquitlam and lost a 4-3 heart-breaker in the last minute of regulation. In the Mainland Division standings, the Rivermen remain in third place with a 21-14-0-1 record for 43 points, while PG sits in fifth with a 9-27-2 0 record for 20 points. The Spruce Kings will play their fifth consecutive road game, as they are currently going through a grueling schedule that has them playing in eight straight away from home. They don’t play again at the Prince George Coliseum until January 14.

Today’s matchup will be the fourth game in the season series, and fourth in a row at the LEC. The Rivermen have owned the Spruce Kings thus far winning all three games and have outscored them 14-2. The scoring for the ‘Riv in the series has been spread throughout the line-up with Adam Sinclair narrowly leading all skaters with 2 goals and 2 assists in three games. In goal, Didur has picked up two of the three wins against PG, and has stopped 44 of 45 shots put his way. The last game between the two division rivals was in the Rivermen’s last home game, (which was also on a Sunday afternoon) a few weeks back on December 20, in what turned out to be a 5-1 Rivermen win.

Puck drop is at 3:00pm at the Langley Events Centre.
