Rivermen lose a close one to Silverbacks

Township of Langley, BC (Saturday, November 7, 2015) – The Langley Rivermen lost a 3-2 game to the Salmon Arm Silverbacks on Saturday night at the Langley Events Centre. It marked the second meeting between the teams, with Langley leading the season series 1-0 coming into the night. The Riv were playing their third game in three days, while the ‘Backs were playing their second game on their current Mainland road-trip. Bo Didur started in net for the Rivermen, while Angus Redmond got the call for the Silverbacks.

A former member of the Rivermen got the scoring started for the Silverbacks at the 9:36 mark. Chase Zieky found himself alone in the slot and fired a shot top corner on Didur for his sixth goal of the season. It would stand as the only marker of the opening frame, as Salmon Arm held the shot advantage 16-4.

Zieky was not done there, as he scored his second of the game at 2:17 of the second period on the power play to give the Silverbacks a 2-0 lead. During a Rivermen two man advantage, Matthew Graham put the Rivermen on the board with his 11th goal of the season. After a mad scramble in the crease of Redmond, Graham found the loose puck and easily tucked it in to the back of the net. Matty Saharchuk and Max Kaufman earned the assists.

The Rivermen tied the game up at 7:27 of the third period off the stick of Torrin White. The veteran forward took the puck down the right-wing on an odd-man rush and buried a slap shot top shelf for his third goal of the season. However, the tie did not last long as Zieky scored his hat-trick goal at the 8:09 mark and would eventually stand as the game winner.

The Rivermen are now 12-8-0-0 on the season and remain in third place in the Mainland Division. The team has a busy schedule next week with four games in five days. It begins at home on Remembrance Day, Wednesday, November 11th at 3:00pm.
