Township of Langley, BC, Wednesday, July 19, 2011: The BCHL released their schedule for the upcoming hockey season earlier this week and the Langley Rivermen can now focus on the task at hand for their inaugural season. Langley’s new team will look to build a familiar foe in the Surrey Eagles, squaring off against their cross town competition in the home opener on Saturday, September 24th. Perhaps most notable is the delayed start to the season as the BCHL shifted their schedule back two weeks, starting the third week of September and ending the first week of March.
October on will see lots of hard hitting BCHL action at the Langley Events Centre, jam packed with some exciting matchups.
Some dates to mark on the calendar following the Home Opener:
October 22 vs. Powell River – the two time defending Coastal Conference Champion Powell River Kings make their first visit to the Langley Events Centre and should prove a good early test for the Rivermen.
November 19 vs. Vernon – the Vipers, fresh off their third consecutive trip to the Royal Bank Cup final (2 time winners, back-to-back-to-back BCHL Champions) make their lone trip down the coast to Langley for a Saturday night thriller
November 26 vs. Coquitlam – the Express make their first trip over the Golden Ears during the BCHL’s Rivalry Weekend in celebration of the League’s 50th Anniversary on the backside of a home and home series
December 28 & 29 vs. Cowichan Valley & Nanaimo – spend Christmas break with the Rivermen as Langley’s team tries to spoil the Capitals and Clippers holiday cheer with some mid-week holiday action
February 28 vs. Surrey – the First Annual Rivermen ‘Readers’ Game versus the Surrey Eagles will be played at 11am at the LEC with some reading and education going on as the club invites some local schools down to show off their school spirit
March 4 vs. Alberni Valley – the final game of the regular season against the Alberni Valley Bulldogs
The Rivermen will be spending much of their season entertaining fans on weekends at the Langley Events Centre with 18 games on either Friday (5) or Saturday (13) and another 4 taking place on Sunday’s. The balance of the schedule will be played out during the week.
