Eagles Recap and Weekend Preview

The Langley Rivermen kicked off the unofficial second half of the season last night after a brief return to action last weekend in Prince George. A successful trip that saw the Riv pick up 3 of a possible 4 points.

The Riv dropped a tough one to the Eagles 5-4 which saw them go down 4-1 early in the first. Despite an effort in the third it just wasn’t enough. The Riv struck first on a goal by Devin Leduc. Ethan Leyh would get one on the powerplay to end the 2nd down 4-2. John Wojiechowski would add one in the third and Ethan Leyh with another to bring it close at 5-4. A goal line stand by the Eagles in the last two minutes would be enough for them to hold onto the 5-4 victory.

Saturday we see the Trail Smoke Eaters come to visit The Lodge for their first and only visit of the year. Last year, he two teams split their season series 1-1 both wining their respective games on the road. Trail is off to a hot start this season being in the top 3 in the league consistently all season, these are 2 points that could really help close the gap for the Riv. Trails Ross Armor leads the team in scoring and currently sits 4th in the league, he is not far removed from playing on Team Canada West’s top line at the World Junior A Challenge, where he was line mates with Angus Crookshank.

Sunday we see the familiar Chilliwack Chiefs. The last meeting between the two the Riv took 5-1 on an explosive outing from Nic Ponak, Tanner Versluis and Ethan Leyh. The Line combined for 8 points in the victory. So far this year the Riv have 4 wins, 1 loss and 1 overtime loss against the Chiefs, who are right on their heels in the Mainland Division.
