Weekend Preview: Riv Look to Carry Momentum onto the Island

Coming off of an impressive 5-2 win over the West Kelowna Warriors on Tuesday, the Rivermen look to keep that going as they face-off against the Victoria Grizzlies on Saturday at 7pm and on Sunday at 2pm against the Alberni Valley Bulldogs.

Last Season saw both clubs split the 2 game series with the Grizzlies striking first blood with a 4-2 win before falling to the Riv a few weeks later 5-4. Both clubs have gotten off to hot starts this season seeing Victoria in 3rd with a 4-3-0-0 and the Rivermen in 2nd at 3-1-0-2 in their respective divisions.

The Riv will look to play spoiler and hand Victoria back to back loses on their home opening weekend after they fell to Vernon 5-2 on Friday Night.

Alberni, saw their season series slip away after they were handed 6-3 and 7-0 loses to the Rivermen. But after a long off season and some front office changes, it is not nearly the same team that suited up against the Riv last season. The Bulldogs currently sit in 4th in their division with a 2-3-0-1 record but we know not getting ahead of ourselves.

“Every team is a good hockey team in this league, wins are hard to come by day in and day out and have to be earned on any given night. We don’t pay too much attention to last season stats, they have a new team this year as do we and tomorrow nights game is going to have to be earned, as is tonights.” said Associate Head Coach Chris Shaw.

Join us next Saturday October 7th as we take on the Coquitlam Express at home in a home and home series. Puck Drop 7pm at The Lodge.
