Township of Langley, BC (Monday, March 9, 2015) – With the series tied at 2-2, the all-important Game 5 goes tonight as the series shifts back to Langley, when the Langley Rivermen host the Prince George Spruce Kings at 7:00PM inside the Langley Events Centre (LEC).
The Rivermen split the first two games of the series at home before departing to Prince George for Games 3 and 4 this past weekend. Game 3 saw the Spruce Kings jump out to an early 2-0 lead before Langley answered in the third period, scoring twice in less than two minutes. Hunter Anderson scored a short-handed goal and Ryan Coulter followed up with his first of the postseason, evening things up at 2-2. For the second time this series, Prince George would get the game-winning goal late in the third period as Cole Todd put one past Bo Didur, making it 3-2 and the Spruce Kings would add an empty netter for the 4-2 final and a 2-1 series lead. Langley outshot Prince George 27-23. Anderson was named 3rd Star.
You didn’t have to tell the Rivermen how important Game 4 was, trailing 2-1 in the best-of-seven Mainland Division semi-final. Langley came out of the gates strong, thanks once again to Hunter Anderson, who kicked things off with his third of the series, 2:11 into the game, on another shorthanded marker. The Spruce Kings would tie things up, getting a power play goal from Jake LeBrun with 1:00 minute remaining in the first period. Both teams tightened up their defense leading to a scoreless second period. In the third period, Hunter Anderson decided to carry the team on his back scoring his second of the game and series-leading fourth of the playoffs, which proved to be the game-winner. Braydon Barker and Will Campion tallied insurance markers as Langley won 4-1 and tied the series at 2-2, heading into Game 5 at the LEC. Anderson was named 1st Star and Bo Didur was 2nd Star, as the Rivermen goaltender stopped 15 of 16 shots in the win.
PLAYOFF NOTES: The Rivermen have outshot Prince George in all four games this series and tallied 118 shots on goal compared to 92 for Prince George.
Both teams have gotten great defensive play and excellent goaltending as neither team has scored more than four goals in a game.
