David Laurin commits to Riv for 2016-17

Township of Langley, BC (Wednesday, September 30, 2015) – The Langley Rivermen are pleased to announce the commitment of Langley, BC native David Laurin (99) to the Rivermen roster for the 2016-17 season.

Laurin is a forward at Yale U-18 Prep Hockey Academy based out of Abbotsford, BC. Last season, he suited up for the Yale U-16 squad and recorded 19 points (11 goals, 8 assists) in 28 games.

“We are really excited about having David for next year. He is a big body that skates well and has a really good offensive mind, but is also responsible defensively. He is a very well-rounded hockey player,” said Rivermen Head Coach and General Manager Bobby Henderson.

Laurin is a Langley Minor Hockey product and played with the association all the way through second year Bantam. Playing for his hometown Junior “A” team is a dream come true for the 16-year-old.

“It is really exciting to have the opportunity to play for the Rivermen next year. Having the chance to stay in Langley and play in front of family and friends on a nightly basis is going to be really fun,” said Laurin.

At the age of 14, Laurin enjoyed a fantastic Bantam year with the Langley Eagles recording 89 points (48 goals, 41 assists) in 66 games. For his efforts, he was drafted by the Kelowna Rockets in the 10th round (205 overall) in the 2014 WHL Bantam Draft. It was during that season, when Laurin popped up on Coach Henderson’s radar.

“A few years back I had some conversations with Bobby and he liked the way I played. I have always had good grades and playing college hockey has always been at the top of my list. I believe playing for a great organization like the Rivermen will help me achieve that goal,” Laurin explained.

At 6 foot 1, 183 pounds, Laurin says Rivermen fans can expect to see him playing a power forward type role on the ice.

“I am a player that will be physical and go hard to the net with the puck. I will do anything it takes to help the team win and I hope to contribute any way I can.”

The Rivermen are busy this weekend playing three games in three days. It begins with a home and home set against the Chilliwack Chiefs, at 7:15pm on Friday, October 2nd at the Langley Events Centre.
