Langley Rivermen week preview December 19th and 20th

The Langley Rivermen play their final games before the Christmas break this coming weekend hosting the Surrey Eagles and culminating the weekend on Saturday with a visit to the Coquitlam Express.

Langley are coming off a single game this weekend despite it originally being scheduled to be a three game in three day stretch, but Fridays game in Chilliwack and Sunday’s game at home against the Chiefs were postponed due to flooding in the lower mainland.

The lone game of the weekend was Saturday at home against the Prince George Spruce Kings, with the Rivermen walking away with a 6-2 win, utilizing goals from 6 different players in the process, and a 34 save performance from Dylan Johnson.

Friday’s opponent in the Surrey Eagles are coming off a weekend split on Vancouver Island, dropping a tight 2-0 loss in Nanaimo against the Clippers, and won 5-1 against Victoria on Saturday to earn the split.

Saturday’s trip to Coquitlam boasts a good opportunity for Langley to close the gap on the division leading Express. Coquitlam dropped a tight 4-3 loss at home on Friday to Prince George who won the game in the last second of the third period, but made the trip to Alberni Valley on Saturday to take on the Bulldogs and skated away with a 3-2 win.

SURREY PLAYER TO WATCH

#18 Nishaan Parmar – the 2006 born power forward from Surrey, BC has been off to a tear to start his first BCHL season, with 26 points in 27 games so far through the first three months of the season. Parmar has two goals and three assists over his last 5 games, and will be one for Langley’s defence to watch our for this Friday at the Lodge.

EXPRESS PLAYER TO WATCH

#27 Georgios Stavrianeas – in 15 games since being traded to Coquitlam from Trail, he has registered 15 points and has really found his stride especially the last few games. The pride of Brossard, Quebec comes into the weekend on the heels of 5 straight games collecting a point, registering 5 goals and two assists in those 5 games.

RIVERMEN PLAYER TO WATCH

#44 Sam Allaby – the forward who hails from Rothesay, New Brunswick has quietly put himself into the category of a top point getter in the BCHL. With 27 points in 24 games, the 2007 born playmaker is coming into this weekend playing his best hockey of the season. He has points in 8 straight games, with two goals and 9 assists in those 8 games, and will look to continue his strong play going into the final weekend before the Christmas break.

Friday’s game is the annual Teddy Bear toss game at the George Preston Arena, with fans encouraged to bring the furry toys to the rink to toss onto the ice after the first Rivermen goal of the game, tickets can be purchased at https://www.showpass.com/o/langley-rivermen-2/.
