On July 29 and 30, The Coaches Site will be hosting its inaugural Hockey Coaching Conference at the Delta Burnaby Hotel and Conference Centre and is pleased to announce that Langley Rivermen head coach and General Manager Steve O’Rourke will be conducting a skill defenseman development workshop on Saturday, July 30.
O'Rourke came to the BCHL after two seasons working for the Calgary Flames organization as an assistant coach with their American Hockey League affiliate, the Abbotsford Heat. His role there included player skill development and video analysis.
As a player, the former defenseman played seven seasons of professional hockey after being drafted by the New York Islanders in 1992. He holds an MBA in sports management and a B.A in kinesiology.
“I’m excited to meet and work with amateur coaches at the 2011 Hockey Coaches Conference," said O’Rourke. “I have been fortunate to benefit from the insight of many great coaches throughout my career and look forward to sharing my knowledge of developing defenseman with fellow coaches at the conference.”
“We are thrilled to have Steve O’Rourke represent the BCHL and the Langley Rivermen at The Coaches Site inaugural Hockey Coaches Conference," said Langley Rivermen Director of Operations Taylor Henderson. “As an organization, we are committed to becoming a part of the local hockey community and having Steve work with minor hockey coaches from across the lower mainland and BC will be a great opportunity.”
