The Langley Rivermen have acquired defenseman Tanner Attew (03) and future considerations from the Victoria Grizzlies in exchange for forward Kalen Szeto (02).
Attew joins the Rivermen after playing last season with the Grizzlies during the BCHL Pod Season. In 13 BCHL games, the 6’2″ 190-pound defenseman scored once and added three assists.
Eager for a fresh start, Attew sent in the following message when asked about what this trade means to him and what Rivermen fans can expect from him.
“I’d first like to thank the Victoria Grizzlies for giving me the opportunity last year to play for them. Their staff was very supportive and I have nothing but good things to say about them. That being said, I think this trade gives me a great opportunity to showcase my talent and to jump right into the lineup on an already strong team in the Riverman. I’ve had an opportunity to speak to Burt Henderson, and I’m very happy with his coaching style and expectations of me, and I feel they will be a very good fit for myself and the Riverman. Fans can expect an offensive defenseman who is not afraid to jump into the play and be one of the first people in the rush. However, I’m also very mindful of my defensive responsibilities. I’m very much a team player who believes success comes from a strong group of hard-working players and look forward to being a part of that group for the next few years.”
Attew will meet his new teammates when training camp opens up on September 17th.
The Rivermen want to also thank Kalen Szeto for all his hard work during his time in Langley and wish him future success in Victoria.
