Rivermen gameday: Capitals @ Rivermen

The Langley Rivermen enter today’s match-up, fresh off a home and home sweep against the Chilliwack Chiefs. After knocking off the Chiefs 6-4 at home on Friday, the ‘Riv went into Prospera Centre last night and won a 3-2 double overtime thriller. After Dominic Franco tied the game with under five minutes to go, the hero was newly acquired Matty Saharchuk who scored the winner at 4:13 of 3 on 3. Goaltender Nick Trenciansky picked up his second consecutive win and was named first star stopping 45 of 47 shots.

Cowichan Valley is closing up a three game road trip this afternoon. On Friday, they went into Prince George and beat the Spruce Kings 5-2 and last night were in Coquitlam and tied the Express 3-3.

Both teams enter with 10 points each in the standings. The Rivermen are 5-2-0-0, while the ‘Caps are 4-1-1-1. With a win today, the Rivermen can leapfrog the idle Wenatchee Wild for first place in the Mainland Division.

“They are coming in with a veteran group and are built to play these three in three weekends. They have some big bodies on that team and are going to be tough to play against. For us, it will be our first time playing three games in a weekend and should be a good test for our guys,” said Rivermen Head Coach and GM Bobby Henderson.
