Rivermen Return Home This Weekend to Face Victoria, Cowichan Valley

After returning from a three game road trip to Vancouver Island this past weekend, the Rivermen will be back at home this Friday and Saturday for the first time in the new year. The trip saw Langley finish with three losses to their Island Division opponents in Victoria, Nanaimo, and Alberni Valley.

In the first of three games in three days, the Riv visited the Victoria Grizzlies in a heated battle which saw the latter come out on top by a score of 6-4. Rivermen forward Tanner Versluis led the way with a hat trick with Alec Capstick and Jake Livingstone each notching two assists. Carter Berger led the Grizzlies offense with two goals while Alex Newhook had a goal and an assist.

The following night, Langley payed a visit to the Nanaimo Clippers who took home a 5-2 victory over the Riv. Garrett Daly and Riley Wallack provided the markers for the away side. Clippers captain Marcus Mitchell finished with a goal and two assists.

To finish up the road trip the Rivermen headed even further north to take on the Alberni Valley Bulldogs, with the home team winning by a score of 4-2 despite being out shot by Langley 42-19. Versluis once again drove the Riv offense with a goal and an assist. William Stromp also found the scoreboard. Jackson Doucet tallied two goals and Cole Demers stopped 40 of 42 shots for the Bulldogs.

This weekend the Rivermen will welcome Rogers Hometown Hockey to town. Friday night’s game will see a ceremonial puck drop from Master of Ceremonies Kyle Buttenham, the Hometown Hockey mascot, and more. Minor Hockey players are asked to wear their team jersey for free admission into the game.

Friday night sees a rematch against the Victoria Grizzlies (25-12-0-2), who currently sit in first place in the Island Division. On Saturday the last-place  Cowichan Valley Capitals (11-25-4-1) also make their only visit of the year to the Lodge. Game time for both nights is 7:15pm.
