Rivermen Wrap First Training Camp

The Langley Rivermen wrapped up their first ever Training camp this past weekend at Sportsplex in Walnut Grove.  Over eighty players started Camp at the Langley Events Centre on Wednesday August 31st with a tough day of Fitness Testing that included Conditioning (Beep Test), Strength (Bench Press, Squats) and Flexibility (Sit and Reach). Thursday consisted of a one hour practice for each of the four teams with mainly battle drills on the agenda. Games took place on both Friday and Saturday with each team playing twice a day, followed by roster cuts on Saturday.

Fifty skaters and six goaltenders were released to make room for the Blue vs. Wheat intersquad game on Sunday morning to wrap up the Camp.  Team Blue edged Team Wheat by a score of 9-7 in an intense game that included three fights.

“I am very happy with the coaching staff who put on a great Prospect and Main camp this past week”, said President and Co-Owner Roy Henderson, “I am really excited for the upcoming hockey season with the young recruits they brought in from across North America and they showed very well at the Camp”.

The Rivermen will practice both on and off the ice this week leading up to their Exhibition Schedule, which begins this Friday and Saturday night at 7 PM against the Wenatchee Wild (NAHL) at the George Preston Recreation Centre. All tickets are $5 cash at the door.
