Save-On-Foods Billet Families of the Month: November

he BCHL and Save-On-Foods are proud to once again recognize billet families from across the league for going the extra mile to support BCHL players off the ice with the Billet Families of the Month award.

Throughout the season, the league will recognize one billet family from each team and the outstanding work they do to support junior hockey in their community.

Save-On-Foods will donate a $100 grocery gift card card to each of the families honoured as BCHL Billet Families of the Month.

The pandemic has made things much more challenging for players and their billet families, so the BCHL and Save-On-Foods could not be happier to recognize just a few of these great people in our communities.

For November, we recognize billets from the Cowichan Valley Capitals, Cranbrook Bucks and Langley Rivermen.

Cowichan Valley Capitals

Family: Gord and Keri Dolbec

Billets since: 2018

Current billeted players: Sam Schofield & McCoy Bidewell

Quote:

“What we like most about billeting is the opportunity to help in the development of young hockey players both on and off the ice. Most of the players who have stayed with us and moved on to other things have stayed in contact with us. It has been quite rewarding on a personal level for both Keri and I.”

-Gord Dolbec

Cranbrook Bucks

Family: Adele Heyworth

Billets since: 2020

Current billeted player: Nathan Airey & Tyson Dyck

Quote:

“After my daughters left, I found my house very quiet. Billeting has brought welcome life back into my home. It’s an honor to be on this journey with young men of such character and integrity.”

-Adele Heyworth

Langley Rivermen

Family: Alex and Vanessa Joehl

Billets since: 2016

Current billeted player: Deven Nagra

Quote:

“Langley has been our home since 2015 and the chance to support players both on and off the ice was such a great opportunity. We had a spare room, plenty of space and a son who loves hockey, so we jumped at the chance when we saw the call for billet families. What started as a fun new family idea morphed into an incredible experience that has formed hockey friendships for life with players and their families from coast to coast both in Canada and the USA. We couldn’t imagine a hockey season without the opportunity to meet new players and provide a safe and happy home for them while they focus on their hockey career. Our support doesn’t stop when they move out either as we love to watch their hockey successes at school and check in on life in general. Our billet players become family members for life and we are so thankful for the experience.”

-Alex and Vanessa Joehl
