Game Day Preview

Langley BC – The Langley Rivermen will play their third game in as many nights as they head to Chilliwack to take on the Chiefs on Saturday night (November 23rd). The Rivermen are coming off a key overtime win against the Salmon Arm Silverbacks on Friday to snap a three game losing streak and now will look to make it two in a row in the win column, with an eye on first place in the division.

With the win the Riv now find themselves just one point back of the division leading Spruce Kings after 27 games this season with a total of 33 points and a record of 15-9-1-2. The Chiefs enter the game with a 7-15-1-2 record and are mired in last place and a distant 18 points back of Langley. However, anytime these two divisional rivals collide the outcome is always up for grabs.

Head to Head / Last Meeting

The two clubs have split the first two meetings this season, with both teams winning on each others home ice. A convincing 3-0 win for the Chiefs back on October 16th was avenged by the Riv two weeks later with a 4-3 victory in a game they controlled most of the evening.

Keys to the Game

Keep the Power Play Hot: The Riv cashed in twice on the man advantage including the game winner in overtime from Gage Torrel on Friday. Langley should be able to capitalize against the Chiefs penalty kill unit and a team that is surrendering an average of 4.2 goals a game.

Stick to the Game Plan: If the Riv play they way they are capable of and do it for 60 minutes, the score should take care of itself. If they get away from it, this game could be much closer than it needs to be.

 Who to Watch

James Robinson has scored in his last two games since returning from injury and now sits 4th in team scoring with 8 goals and 10 assists. Marcus Vela is playing his best hockey of his young BCHL career over the last 10 games. Mitch McLain continues to the squad in both goals and assists and is tied for 9th in league scoring. Expect Brock Crossthwaite to get back to back starts after his first star performance last night. Austin Azurdia left last night contest with an apparent head injury and will likely be a game time decision.
