Rivermen Embrace International Talent: Finnish Player Oskar Komarov Makes BCHL Debut
Langley, BC – July 04, 2023 – The Langley Rivermen are proud to make a landmark announcement today: the signing of their first ever Finnish player, right winger Oskar Komarov. This historic move not only enhances the Rivermen’s roster but also marks a significant milestone in their commitment to integrating international talent.
“This is an exciting moment for our team,” said Head Coach Burt Henderson. “Komarov’s experience in the Finnish U20 SM-sarja league will bring a fresh perspective to our gameplay. His strong performance and dedication to the sport make him a valuable addition to our roster.”
The 19-year-old player from Uusikaarlepyy, Finland, has been showcasing his skills in his homeland’s league, displaying consistent performance and potential throughout his career. His 2022-23 season with the HIFK U20 was particularly impressive, scoring a total of 33 points.
Associate Head Coach Tyler Kuntz expressed his excitement about the new signing. “Oskar’s work ethic and competitiveness combined with his development in the past few years have been impressive. He’s been in an excellent program with a high level of coaching that has allowed him the time to grow and develop into an elite hockey player that is ready to play in the BCHL. We are very excited to add Oskar to our program.”

In the NHL realm, Oskar Komarov certainly has a familial touchstone. His brother, Leo, has carved out a distinguished career, accumulating nearly 500 matches between stints with the Toronto Maple Leafs and New York Islanders. Leo has also proudly represented Finland in two Olympic Games and more than 50 international contests.
