A Weekend to Remember: Vitaly Levyy’s Outstanding Performance Earns Top Honors
Langley, BC – September 26, 2023 – The British Columbia Hockey League (BCHL) kicked off its new season with a bang, showcasing a slew of talented players. Among the standout performances, the Langley Rivermen’s own Vitaly Levyy distinguished himself as the BCHL’s leading scorer through the opening weekend, earning him the illustrious title of 1st Star.
In a pair of nail-biting matches, Levyy displayed exceptional skill, accumulating three goals and two assists. The season’s inauguration on Friday witnessed Levyy’s prowess on full display. Barely into the game, at 3:31 of the first period, the seasoned BCHLer marked the scoreboard with the opening goal. With the game tied at 1-1, Levyy showcased his flair for playmaking, assisting a goal to edge the Rivermen ahead and following up with another score of his own, all within the first period. His commendable three-point contribution couldn’t prevent a narrow 5-4 defeat against the Chilliwack Chiefs, but his efforts did earn him the first star of the game.
Unfazed by the previous night’s loss, Levyy resumed his scintillating form on Saturday against the Alberni Valley Bulldogs. Trailing 3-2 at the end of the second intermission, he spearheaded the Rivermen’s resurgence with a goal just 31 seconds into the final period. The Rivermen rallied to a 6-4 victory, with Levyy contributing an assist, marking his second consecutive multi-point game to commence the season.
For their outstanding performances, Langley Rivermen forward Vitaly Levyy, Surrey Eagles goalkeeper Ajeet Gundarah, and West Kelowna Warriors forward Johannes Løkkeberg have been honored as the NAPA Auto Parts 3 Stars of the Week.
“We are incredibly proud of Vitaly’s performance,” commented Head Coach Burt Henderson. “His dedication, skill, and leadership on the ice set the tone for the season. We look forward to witnessing more of his exploits as the season progresses.”
