Power Play: Langley Rivermen Score Big with New Ownership

Promising Prospects Ahead as Local Entrepreneurs Take Reins of Langley Rivermen

Langley, BC – June 5, 2023 – The Langley Rivermen Junior A Hockey Club is excited to announce a new era of leadership with the acquisition of the team by local businessmen Dana Matheson and Jamie Schreder. The lifelong Langley/Cloverdale residents are eager to bring their passion for hockey and business acumen to the forefront, promising to elevate the Rivermen to new heights.

This transition follows two seasons of negotiations with the previous owner, John Henderson, maintaining the continuity of the Rivermen program while also envisioning opportunities for growth.

“We are extremely motivated to engage both the residents of Langley and the business community to generate fresh interest in the club,” said Matheson, who has a longstanding history with Langley, both as a successful entrepreneur and as a passionate supporter of local sports and community organizations.

The dynamic duo plan to create a hub for young families at George Preston Recreation Centre, in a rapidly growing community of Brookswood, in South Langley. Their aim is to ensure a competitive and entertaining product on the ice that residents will be thrilled to support.

“We’re excited to serve our  community with world class entertainment and elite level hockey.” added Schreder, a seasoned entrepreneur. “I am both thrilled and honored to be part of this incredible journey. I strongly believe that our combined passion for hockey, commitment to our community, and business experience will usher in a new era of success for the Langley Rivermen.”

Dana Matheson’s impressive history of business success and active community involvement are invaluable assets he brings to his new role with the Langley Rivermen. As the founder of C&D Logistics Ltd. in Surrey, BC, Dana built a successful company from the ground up, demonstrating his keen business acumen. His numerous prestigious awards, including the Under 40 Business Person of the Year for Langley in 2016, are testament to his entrepreneurial prowess.

Jamie Schreder is a successful entrepreneur, with a portfolio that includes ownership of several prominent real estate brokerages in the area. His team has demonstrated outstanding performance within their field in the highly competitive Metro Vancouver market. Outside his notable real estate career, Jamie shows his commitment to his community through contributions to various local charities and as a co-founder of the Camp Beer Co.

Following the exciting news of the new ownership, the Langley Rivermen will also be moving forward as part of the BCHL’s recent transition to an independent junior A league. This decision was taken by the BCHL after a unanimous vote by the Board of Governors, reaffirming their commitment to provide a high-performance platform for athletes who aspire to progress to collegiate and professional hockey.

The Langley Rivermen, along with the other member teams, will benefit from this new model which is designed to give teams more autonomy to make decisions that align with their specific goals and community needs. This development will provide an even stronger platform for the new owners to bring their vision for the Rivermen to life, while continuing to provide exciting and competitive hockey to Langley’s passionate fan base.

The new owners eagerly anticipate the opportunities ahead and extend their sincere appreciation to the “Rivnation” community for their continued support and involvement. As the BCHL welcomes a new chapter in the Rivermen’s story, there is no doubt that the club, and community, are set for an exciting future.
