Riv Win a Thriller in Overtime

Langley, BC – The Rivermen kept their hot streak alive beating the Prince George Spruce Kings 3-2 in double overtime on Saturday night (November 2). It’s now 4 wins in a row for the Rivermen as they move to 13-5-1-1 on the season and remain atop the BCHL Mainland division, 3 points ahead of Prince George.

Matt Ustaski had a big game for the Rivermen potting two goals in the game, his first got his team out to an early lead. The opening period was dominated by the Rivermen firing 12 shots on goal and limiting the Spruce Kings to just 6 but they were only able to get one goal past the Spruce Kings net minder Alex Murray.

In the second period the Spruce Kings finally solved Steve Myland who continues to impress stopping 18 of 20 shots and picking up the win on the night. The Rivermen did a solid job defensively again tonight limiting the Spruce Kings to very few quality scoring chances, which seems to have been a focus for the team in their last few games.

The game was all tied up before the end of the second period thanks to Kevan Kilistoff who made a beautiful feed to Ustaski for his second goal of the game. Both teams had their chances in the third period but regulation and the first overtime solved nothing as the game was headed to double overtime to battle it out 3 on 3.

The Rivermen had a few early chances at the beginning of the 2nd overtime with Jakob Reichert coming so close to finishing it early but he just couldn’t find the handle. From there Kilistoff played set up man again, making a slick pass to James Robinson who finished off the game in style. The Rivermen poured onto the ice with excitement as they earned their 4th straight win evening up the season series at one game apiece.

The Rivermen will be back in action as they have a home and home with Merritt next Friday November 8th in Merritt followed by a Saturday night game at the Langley Events Centre on November 9th at 7:15pm.
