Rivals Set to Clash as Eagles, Chiefs Visit the Lodge

A big weekend lies ahead for the Rivermen as they play host to Mainland Division rivals Surrey Eagles and Chilliwack Chiefs on Friday and Saturday Night. The previous three games dating back to last Saturday saw Langley finish with a record of 1-1-1. All three games finished with a one goal difference.

In the first game of the weekend, the Rivermen played a tough defensive battle against the Prince George Spruce Kings, with Prince George coming out on top 2-1. Logan Neaton finished the game with 36 saves on 37 shots for the Spruce Kings. Kalen Szeto scored the lone goal for the Riv.

The following afternoon saw another defensive showdown with the Alberni Valley Bulldogs in a 3-2 overtime loss. Bulldogs forward Jackson Doucet scored the overtime winner and also had an assist in the game. Szeto and Trevor Ayre notched the tallies for the home side.

In the first of a home-and-home series with the Surrey Eagles on Wednesday, Langley scored 3 goals in the opening frame on their way to a 4-3 victory over their rivals. Riv forward CJ Walker scored 2 goals and Braedon Fleming made 33 saves in the win.

With two games against two division rivals this weekend, the Rivermen (8-6-1-0) have a chance to gain ground in the standings. Friday night sees the second half of the home-and-home against the Eagles (5-14-0-0) who currently sit in last place in the division. Then on Saturday, the first place Chilliwack Chiefs (13-5-0-0) come to town.
