Rivermen Begin Home Stand With Division Clash

Langley, BC – The Langley Rivermen open up a four game home stand and three games in three nights with a division battle against the Surrey Eagles tonight.

The 20-11-1-2 Rivermen are coming off a grueling schedule that saw them play five of their last six games on the road.  But despite the hand they've been dealt, Langley remains atop the BCHL's Mainland division, 16 points ahead of the 13-8-1 fourth place Eagles.  It's already the sixth meeting of the season between these division foes with the Rivermen winning the last five including a 2-1 victory in Surrey on Remembrance Day.

Tonight marks the first home game for the Rivermen since December 1st when they earned a 4-2 win over Chilliwack before splitting last weekend's Interior road trip.  Both Langley and Surrey are looking to get back in the win column with losses in their last respective outings.

Despite sitting fourth in the division, the Eagles still boast a very respectable power play which is fourth best in the league on the road at 21.3%.  The Rivermen, meanwhile, continue to lead the league on the penalty kill at 86.8% and an even better 90.1% at home.

With 11 goals in their last three games, the Rivermen offence continues to roll with scoring coming from all forward lines as seven players have now hit the 20-point mark on the season.  Goaltending also continues to be solid for Langley as Brock Crossthwaite has won five of his last six starts while Lyndon Stanwood was stellar in his first appearance for the Rivermen last Friday in Trail making 32 saves.

Puck drop tonight at the Langley Events Centre is 7:15pm.
