Rivermen Give Helping Hand

Township of Langley, BC, Tuesday, December 11, 2012: Langley Rivermen were lending a helping hand to the less fortunate on Sunday afternoon.  It was an event put on by Lisa Gregory Special Events at the Fernridge Hall in the Brookswood area that helped the homeless during the holiday season.

“Volunteerism and giving back is at the forefront of our franchise. We strive as an organization to help out in the community as much as we can. Mike Bordignon has been helping out at this event for a number of years and when he mentioned it we did not bat an eye and wanted to be a part of it,” said Rivermen Director of Operations Taylor Henderson.

All 23 players were on hand putting together care packages ranging from bagged lunches and pieces of clothing for the holiday season such as socks and toques. After it was all done, the packages were delivered to the homeless.

“At this time of the year there are many hardships. This kind of event puts a lot of things in perspective for our players and down the road we hope that they remember this type of experience,” Henderson finished.

The Rivermen are back at the Langley Events Centre for three straight home games starting this Friday, December 14th versus Coquitlam. It is Teddy Bear Toss night, so if you are planning on coming to the game, bring a stuffed animal or two and be ready to throw them on the ice when the Rivermen score their first goal. The club also hosts Chilliwack on Saturday and Powell River on Sunday.  Following Sunday’s game, fans are welcome to skate on the ice at the LEC with all of the players.  Tickets are available for all three games at Ticketmaster or call 604-882-8800.
