Rivermen Host Express in 3rd Home Opener

Langley, BC – The Langley Rivermen will open their home schedule tonight at the Langley Events Centre, as they take on the Coquitlam Express at 7:15pm in BCHL action. The Rivermen currently lead the Mainland Division through three games with a 2-0-0-1 record, one point ahead of Coquitlam and Surrey.

Last week’s game resulted in a tough double overtime loss to cross town rivals the South Surrey Eagles. The Rivermen lost 5-4 but battled back to grab a point as they scored a late goal to force overtime, after trailing 4-1 heading into the final frame. The Rivermen dominated the game with shots on net, outshooting the Eagles 52-22, as they stayed undefeated in regulation.

Tonight the Rivermen face a Coquitlam team they have beaten 6 straight times going back to last season. The Rivermen won last year’s season series 6-2, winning the final 6 meetings between the two teams. The Express have yet to win a game at the LEC since March 3rd, 2012.

Tonight is the Rivermen’s third home opener in franchise history and they will be looking to build on last year’s strong opening game against Alberni where they won 7-0. Tonight will also be the first time newly appointed captain Mitch Mclain gets to lead his team onto the ice at the LEC. Mclain has 1 goal and 2 assists to start the year, with his lone goal coming in overtime to give the Rivermen their first win of the season.

The puck drops on the Rivermen’s home opener at 7:15pm tonight, at the LEC.
