Rivermen Look to Finish Showcase with a Win

(Township of Langley, BC – September 21, 2014) – The Langley Rivermen will look to bounce back after losing their season opener, when they face-off against the Victoria Grizzlies at 2:00PM at the Bauer BCHL Showcase in Chilliwack.

The Rivermen fell short on Friday, losing to the Salmon Arm Silverbacks 4-2. After scoring 28 goals in 4 pre-season games, Langley was unable to find the same offensive gear.

“It’s going to be a matter of time,” said Assistant Coach, Kurt Astle. “It’s always harder to score in the regular season. We just tried to find the fancy play instead of committing to a decision and making the play.”

The penalty box is something the Rivermen will look to stay out of this afternoon. The team took 12 minor penalties against Salmon Arm, who converted twice on the man advantage.

“The effort was good at the start, but we ran into some penalty trouble,” said Astle. “Some of the guys adjusted well to the pace and for some, it’s going to take a little longer. I like where we’re at and we’ll be ready for Sunday.”

The Rivermen got goals from Will Campion and Evan Anderson, while goaltender Bo Didur made 31 saves in the loss.

Victoria won their season opener, after an overtime victory against Vernon on Saturday night. Mitch Meek scored the winner and Garrett Forster scored twice in the win.

The Rivermen finish off their BCHL Showcase this afternoon at Chilliwack’s Prospera Centre. All away games can be seen on www.FastHockey.com
