Rivermen Seek First Win of Season

Township of Langley (Saturday, September 27, 2014) – The Langley Rivermen will look for their first win of the season when they visit the Vernon Vipers on Sunday afternoon.

Langley lost its opening two games of the season last weekend at the BCHL Showcase in Chilliwack as they look to spoil the Vipers home opener.

“Overall it wasn’t the result we wanted but considering how many new faces we have in the room it was good to see the improvement last weekend,” said Head Coach and General Manager Bobby Henderson. “It’s something we hope to continue to see over the course of the season.”

Last season, the Rivermen won both meetings against Vernon, including a 5-2 victory at Kal Tire Place back in February.

Langley will need an offensive boost, scoring just three goals in two games and going 1-for-13 on the man advantage.

“We’ve had a lot of time to go over things in practice,” said Assistant Coach Kurt Astle. “I’ve liked our preparation, focus and posture in practice. Guys are ready to go, putting the work in and showing positive signs for Sunday’s games.

“We’re discovering a lot of ourselves in practice this week,” said forward Marcus Vela. “We’re a pretty deep team and when we play together we’re very strong. We have to continue that and keep improving every game.”

Vernon split their home and home with West Kelowna, beating them 4-1 in West Kelowna on Friday night and lost 4-0 Saturday night. The Vipers come into Sunday’s game with a record of 2 wins, 1 loss and 1 overtime loss for a total of five points.

Sunday’s game against Vernon is at 2:00PM. It can be seen on www.FastHockey.com and heard on www.mixlr.com/Langley-Rivermen

The Rivermen’s home opener is on Saturday, October 4 at the Langley Events Centre. The first 1,500 fans receive a Rivermen Foam Finger, presented by Global BC. Fans will also receive 2-for-1 entry when they bring a food or cash donation to the Global Food Bank.
