Looking to bounce back from a rough Island road trip, the Langley Rivermen answered the bell and came away with two wins over the weekend at the Lodge against Victoria and Cowichan Valley. The two wins provided a much needed push towards the pursuit of clinching a playoff spot.
Langley came into the weekend looking for redemption and revenge on a Grizzlies team that took the first game of the season series a week ago in Victoria. This time the Rivermen hit hard and came away with a 5-2 victory in the rematch. Trevor Ayre led the way with two goals while four other players also finished with two points including Tanner Versluis, Chase Pletzke, Daneel Lategan, and Ryley Lanthier. Alexander and Charlie Campbell each had a goal for the Grizzlies.
Eyeing the weekend sweep of Island Division opponents, the Rivermen welcomed the Cowichan Valley Capitals into town for the second game of the weekend. In a bit of a defensive battle with a low amount of shots from both sides, the Riv finished of the weekend with a 3-2 victory. Riv forward Will Stromp led the way with a goal and an assist while Daneel Lategan notched two assists. Alec Capstick and Mark Gallant also scored for the home side. Cowichan Valley saw goals from David Melaragni and Dimitri Mikrogiannakis.
This weekend will see a home and home against the Coquitlam Express, with Friday night’s matchup taking place in Coquitlam and Saturday at home. The Express (23-17-2-0) continue to sit in third place in the division with the Rivermen (20-21-1-0) right behind them. This will prove to be a big weekend for Langley to gain ground.
Saturday Night will be Country Night at the Lodge. Wear your best pair of blue jeans and boots as we bring you some country-themed music, games, and trivia on game night.
Tickets for home games can be purchased at the George Preston Recreation Centre “The Lodge” box office 45 minutes before puck drop and by calling 604-229-2352 or emailing firstname.lastname@example.org.
