Rivermen Welcome Tonogai to Staff

Township of Langley, BC, Thursday, August 2, 2012: The Langley Rivermen Junior “A” Hockey Club is pleased to announce the hiring of Trainer Brayden Tonogai. Brayden will take over duties effective immediately from previous trainer Wayne Hubbard who decided to retire after 41 years of service in hockey. Tonogai is a young trainer at just 25 years of age and was born in Regina, Saskatchewan, but then moved to Coquitlam, B.C. in 1997.

“I am pretty excited to be joining the Rivermen organization, I have heard nothing but great things about the coaches and the people that surround the organization and it also gives me a chance to come back home,” said Tonogai.

Tonogai, an SFU grad, has worked the past couple of years in a trainer capacity. His first job was with the Mount Royal Cougars of the ACAC and won a college title with them in 2011. Tonogai then switched sports to baseball and worked for the Calgary Vipers of the North American Baseball League. Most recently, he went back to hockey and was employed by the Calgary Buffalos of the Alberta Major Midget league.

Tonogai will now get his first taste of BCHL hockey and is very excited to see what the league is all about,

“I am expecting to see some good hockey out here, I have heard great things about the BCHL, and working with college players who played in the league said this is the Junior “A” league that you want to be in,” continued Tonogai.

The new Rivermen Trainer has seen some pretty nice facilities in his career so far, but nothing like the Langley Events Centre, which he will now call home,

“The facility seems to be top notch, I have been pretty lucky to work in some great environments, but this is the best I have seen so far and can hardly wait for the season to start.”

The entire Rivermen organization would like to congratulate Wayne Hubbard on a fantastic career and wish him the best of luck in retirement.

About Langley Rivermen
The Langley Rivermen are Langley's BCHL hockey team. The Rivermen recently finished their inaugural season in March helping five players to obtain NCAA Division 1 scholarships. With a new Head Coach and General Manager, key returning players and an abundance of new and exciting prospects from around North America, the Rivermen expect to be contenders this upcoming season and in the years to come.

The Rivermen is the first hockey team to truly reflect our community and honour its history and heritage.  The Rivermen name is derived from the history of Langley.  The early explorers and traders of the Hudson’s Bay Company and the Northwest Company, the Rivermen, came to British Columbia’s West Coast to trade fur, carry goods, and create partnerships.  These explorers are who laid the ground work for Langley.  Like the strong and tenacious settlers who established the first roots in this community, the Rivermen are poised to boldly forge their way into a new era.
