The Langley Rivermen head out on the road this weekend to Alberta for the first time in their history to take on the Blackfalds Bulldogs Friday, and Spruce Grove Saints on Saturday.
Langley dropped a 5-0 decision to Chilliwack on Friday at home, but responded on Saturday with a 6-3 win over the Victoria Grizzlies to split the weekend.
Blackfalds have won five games in a row, including a 4-3 win over Okotoks on Wednesday, and a 2-1 win over Trail on Friday at home.
Spruce Grove have lost five in a row coming into this weekend, dropping their pair of road games on Friday in Penticton and Saturday in Salmon Arm both 5-2 decisions.
BLACKFALDS PLAYER TO WATCH
#20 Joey Melo – the 2005 born Georgetown, Ontario product has been on of the most consistent offensive player on a struggling Blackfalds team this season. Melo has had a brilliant last 5 game stretch, collecting four goals and five assists in that span. The Alaska-Anchorage committed forward will look to extend his strong play, and his team’s season high winning streak Friday at home against Langley.
SPRUCE GROVE PLAYER TO WATCH
#9 Austin Peters – the 2004 born forward was an offseason acquisition by the Saints from Chilliwack and has had a career year offensively doubling his output in points from last year. The Maine commit has also been consistent, collecting points in 8 of his last 9 games, and will look to get his team out of a rut this weekend.
LANGLEY PLAYER TO WATCH
#26 Keenan Ingram – it is hard to look past the play of the 2004 born Calgary, Alberta product lately, as he has goals in 6 of his last 7 games as the Rivermen make a push towards the playoffs. Ingram has 15 points in 13 games since joining Langley in early February, and has certainly hit his stride since coming over from the SJHL.
