Week preview October 9th, 11th, and 12th

The Langley Rivermen conclude their five-game home stand this coming Friday at home to the Coquitlam Express, before making the trek to Alberta for two games at the annual BCHL Showcase on Sunday against Salmon Arm, and Monday against West Kelowna.

Langley dropped a tight 4-3 loss to Nanaimo on Friday at home, but were able to pull out a come from behind 4-2 win over Powell River, utilizing a three goal third period to defeat the visitors on Saturday.

Coquitlam won both their games this weekend, both at home using a four goal Nishaan Parmar game on Friday to defeat Powell River 5-4 in overtime, and used a last minute goal to best Nanaimo 3-2 on Saturday.

Next Sunday’s opponent in Salmon Arm defeated Blackfalds 6-0 at home on Friday, but dropped a 4-1 decision in Vernon on Saturday.

West Kelowna meanwhile shutout Blackfalds 3-0 on Saturday at home in their lone game of the weekend.

COQUITLAM PLAYER TO WATCH

#11 Chase Valliant – the Surrey, BC product has returned home for his final year of junior eligibility, after spending the past couple seasons in the WHL and has been off on a tear to start this season. After starting the season with back to back hat tricks, the 2006 born forward has collected four points in the last four games and has 12 points in 6 games. Langley will have to keep a close eye on Valliant in all situations on Friday if they are to find two points.

SALMON ARM PLAYER TO WATCH

#12 Cash Olson – The first year Silverback has helped levy a balanced Salmon Arm in his first season with the team, collecting 10 points in 6 games. Olson has collected points in all but one game so far, and has three multi point efforts in the early going of this season. He and his team will get their lone look at Langley on Sunday evening, who have started the season at 3-3-0-0 through 6 games played.

WEST KELOWNA PLAYER TO WATCH

#26 Emmanuel Chan – the BCHL rookie has had an excellent start to his initial season, as the pride of Montreal, Quebec has collected at least a point in all 7 of his teams games. After joining his brother Olivier on the Warriors, Emmanuel scored in 6 consecutive games, and has 4 multi point games this season. Watch out for him this weekend as he looks to secure a commitment to an NCAA school with plenty of scouts watching the BCHL Showcase.

RIVERMEN PLAYER TO WATCH

#4 Harshaan Kaila – The second year Rivermen forward has been extremely confident coming into year two in the BCHL, after a strong finish to last year. The 2008 born Surrey, BC product plays a physical game, and also plays in all 3 situations for Langley which showed on Saturday with his shorthanded goal providing an insurance goal for his team against Powell River. Kaila already has three goals through 6 games, and had just 5 in 43 games last year, so look for him to smash those numbers over the next couple weeks and also get some good looks from scouts at the BCHL Showcase this coming weekend.
