Weekend Preview and Home Opener: Battle of Highway 1 Set to Resume

Rivermen set to resume their 2017-2018 campaign this Friday as they take on the Chilliwack Chiefs in their home opener in a home and home stand against the rival club. Chiefs, coming off an opening weekend were they tied and lost to the Prince George Spruce Kings, will look to rebound at home against the Rivermen.

The Rivermen, coming off a 5-4 overtime loss to the Surrey Eagles, will also look to bounce back on the road Friday, and then again at home on Saturday night at the Lodge.

This will mark, the first match up between the clubs (excluding early pre season games) since the two teams faced off in round one of last years playoffs where we saw the Chiefs take the series in 6 games.

The Chiefs, hostings this years RBC Cup, has a slew of returning and new players. Returning forward Will Calverley will wear the C this season while new comers Bobby Young, Harrison Blisdell will help to carry the work load alongside returners Lee and Calverley, who had 3 goals in a 5-5 tie last Friday against the Spruce Kings,

This will also mark the first game for Rivermen new comer Colin Bernard, who was acquired last week from the Chiefs. Also marking the return for Bernard to his old club. Last season Bernard had 7 goals 31 assists for 31 points and 56 penalty minutes and joined his Rivermen teammates for the first time this week.

“I am excited and grateful for the opportunity given to me from Coach Henderson and his staff, they had a great, young, fast and exciting team last year that brought the best out in us in last years playoffs and im excited to be working with them and building on that now.” said Bernard
