Langley Primed to Host Prince George, Alberni Valley in Weekend Home Set

 

The Rivermen will continue their homestand this weekend as they welcome division rival Prince George Spruce Kings (8-4-0-1) on Saturday, October 20th, and the Alberni Valley Bulldogs (5-7-1-0) the following afternoon.

The previous weekend saw the team win 1 out of 2 games. In the first game, Langley poured on 39 shots against the Surrey Eagles on route to a 5-0 victory. Forward Ethan Leyh led the Rivermen with a goal and 2 assists. Defensemen Ryan Helliwell and Jake Livingstone each finished with 2 points. The next night, the Wenatchee Wild came to town and handed Langley a 3-0 loss. Wild forward AJ Hodges led the team with a goal and an assist, while goaltender Austin Park made 14 saves in the shutout. Braedon Fleming made 31 saves in the loss for the Rivermen.

This weekend, Langley looks to get their revenge after Prince George squeaked out a 4-3 victory in their previous meeting at the Lodge on September 29th. Spruce Kings captain Ben Poisson potted a hat trick and Nick Bochen finished with 3 assists. Tanner Versluis of Langley had a goal and an assist while Fleming made 31 saves. The biggest matchup of the night will be between the two goaltenders. Fleming currently leads the BCHL with a 1.84 GAA in 11 games.

The next afternoon sees the Rivs play their first of two Sunday afternoon home games this season when they take on the Alberni Valley Bulldogs. In the first of two meetings between these teams this season, they each look to climb back up the standings with a key win. The Bulldogs currently sit third in the Island Division with 11 points while Langley (7-5-0-0) sits in fourth in the Mainland Division with 14 points going into this weekend.

Game times for this weekend are 7:15pm for Saturday night and 2:00pm for Sunday afternoon.
