A Game to Remember

Langley BC — The 13-6-1-2 Langley Rivermen will look to get back in the win column on Remembrance Day from the South Surrey Arena against the Eagles. Puck drop will be at 2:15pm after a special pre game ceremony.

After a nice four game win streak the Rivermen have lost two straight (both to the Merritt Centennials) including Saturday in double overtime. They now find themselves one point back of the Spruce Kings for top spot in the Mainland Division. Langley does however hold two games in hand on Prince George.

The Eagles come into Monday’s contest alternating wins and losses over their last four games and sit in 4th place in the division with a 9-13-1-0 record.

Head to Head / Last Meeting

The Rivermen dropped the first meeting of the year in on September 13th. After a frantic comeback including sending the game to overtime with just ten seconds left, the Rivermen would fall 5-4. Just under a month later Langley would sweep a home and home weekend winning 4-3 and a convincing 5-1 victory. The two teams would meet again a week later with the Riv winning once again by a score of 3-1.

Players to Watch

Marcus Vela has scored in his last two games and continues to go hard to the net while being responsible in his own end. Coach Henderson has rewarded the young center with more ice time in key situations. Liam McDermott will play his third game in a Langley uniform. The lanky forward looked much better in his second outing as he becomes more familiar with the offense and defensive systems. The Riv will have to keep a close eye on Brett Mulcahy who leads the Eagles with 28pts including 18 goals. Line mate Jonah Renouf is just behind him with 26pts.

Keys to the Game

Score goals: Sounds simple but the Riv have only managed 3 in their last two outings and need to find some secondary scoring. It will be crucial for some other forwards to step up with James Robinson out with an injury. The good news is that Surrey gives up an average of four goals a game.

First Pass: Langley struggled to break out of their own zone this weekend resulting in a number of turnovers. It’s still unknown at press time if Vik Dombrovskiy will return from Nova Scotia in time for the game. Dombrovskiy would surely help on both the breakout and power play.

Meeting number five shapes up to be an entertaining affair and one to remember. On a day all of us should take time, to remember.
