Rivermen Back in 2015 After Holiday Break

Township of Langley, BC (Friday, January 2, 2015) – The Langley Rivermen (19-13-1-4 = 43) will hope to make January as successful as December, starting tonight when they visit division rivals, the Coquitlam Express (13-17-1-4 = 31) at 7:00PM at the Poirier Sports and Leisure Centre.

The Rivermen haven’t played since December 20, 2014 – a stretch of twelve consecutive days without a game. Langley picked up at least a point in seven of ten games last month.

“It was good for the guys to recharge the batteries and head home and take a break from the game,” said Head Coach and General Manager Bobby Henderson. “We’ve been pretty dialed-in this week in practice, so hopefully we can get off a good start this weekend.”

“We’ve been practicing for the past few days, making sure we get the rust out,” said Captain Kevan Kilistoff. “We've got another important divisional game. We’re trying to push for first place and it’s going to be huge for us.”

Langley has split the four meetings against Coquitlam, including both teams winning a game in each other’s rink.

“For us, it’s a matter of respecting their ability,” said Henderson. “We know their top guys are dangerous but we have a game plan we need to stick to. If we do that, we’ll have success.”

The Rivermen are in second place in the Mainland Division, biting at the heels of the first place Chilliwack Chiefs, who lead the division with 46 points.

“All the young guys on the team are starting to figure it out and getting more confident with the puck,” said Kilistoff. “They’re contributing more which is great to see. We’re becoming a four line team and everybody is chipping in.”

The two teams will be right back in action tomorrow at the Langley Event Centre to finish off a home-and-home. The Rivermen will continue their busy stretch next weekend with a pivotal three games in three days, all against the Chilliwack Chiefs, beginning next Friday night.

“The guys know what they need to do and how they need to do it,” said Henderson. “It’s just a matter of executing it down the road.”
