Rivermen Dominate Eagles

Langley, BC – The Rivermen continued their winning ways with a dominant 5-1 win over the Surrey Eagles on Saturday night (October 5) and they improved their record to 6-3-0-1. It was their first win at home this season and their third straight win as they have moved into a tie with Prince George for 1st in the BCHL Mainland Division.

The Rivermen got off to a perfect start in the opening period with an early goal from Austin Azurdia who potted his 5th goal of the season, which was assisted by James Robinson and Will Cook. It was all Rivermen right from the opening faceoff and even when Surrey had their chances early, Brock Crossthwaite was there to make the save. Crossthwaite was named the third star of the game, giving up one goal and stopped 24 of 25 shots.

In the second period the Rivermen had some penalty trouble but their defense was able to shut down one of the best power plays in the league killing all 6 shorthanded situations. The Rivermen added to their lead in the second with Tanner Johnson’s first of the season to make it 3-0 after 40 minutes.

The Rivermen continued to push in the third period scoring two more goals to win the game 5-1 in a lopsided game. The Rivermen now lead the season series 2-1 over their division rival and they will host the Eagles again next Saturday on October 12th.

The storyline for the Rivermen over the last few games has been the line of Azurdia, Cook and Robinson and they were dominant again tonight combining for 7 points in the game. The Rivermen will have an opportunity to win their 4th straight tomorrow afternoon at 2pm as they take on Alberni Valley at the Langley Events Centre. Also following the game on Sunday remember to stick around for a skate with the Rivermen after the game.
