Rivermen Look to Get Back on Track against Powell River

Township of Langley, BC (Friday, December 19, 2014) – The Langley Rivermen look to get back on the winning track when they host the Powell River Kings on Day 2 of Rivmas at 7:00PM at the Langley Events Centre.

The Rivermen had their four-game winning streak snapped last night when Prince George defeated Langley 3-1 at the LEC. Spruce Kings Goaltender Jesse Jenks stopped 44 of 45 shots and a defensive miscue was the difference in the game. Matt Graham scored the lone goal for the Rivermen, who remain in second place in the Mainland Division – two points ahead of Prince George.

“Overall I thought we played well,” said Assistant Coach Kurt Astle. “We had our chances but couldn’t capitalize and their goalie played real well, which was the difference.”

Langley outshot the Spruce Kings 45-37 but weren’t able to take advantage of the opportunities given to them throughout the game. The Rivermen finished 0-for-3 on the power play. Bo Didur made 34 saves in a losing effort.

The Rivermen now turn their attention to the Powell River Kings, as the teams meet for the first time this season. The two teams met in the pre-season back in September when the Rivermen won 9-7 as both teams did not play their full roster. Last season the Rivermen and Kings met twice in the regular season as both teams were victorious in their home rinks.

Powell River sits in second place in the Island Division, three points ahead of Victoria and Alberni Valley in a tight race. The Kings have a dangerous top line with Jarid Lukosevicius, Jacob Pritchard and Kurt Keats, who have a combined total of 118 points this season. The Kings are coming off an overtime loss last night in Alberni Valley, falling 3-2 to the Bulldogs.

“They’re a very dangerous team with a lot of skill and weapons,” said Astle. “Our defence will have to play a good tight-checking game and keep them to the outside. If we do that, we should have success.”

It’s Day 2 of Rivmas. Fans get in free and also receive a five-dollar food or beverage voucher. The final day of Rivmas is on Saturday, December 20 and includes free admission and five dollar food and beverage or merchandise voucher.
