Rivermen Search for Fifth Straight Victory, Host Spruce Kings

Township of Langley, BC (Thursday, December 18, 2014) – The Langley Rivermen (18-11-1-4) look for a season-high fifth straight win as they host the Prince George Spruce Kings (17-13-0-3) at 7:00PM on day one of ‘Rivmas’ at the Langley Events Centre.

The Rivermen are coming off a busy stretch this month, playing seven games this month and picking up at least a point in six of those. The team’s enjoyed some recent success with a weekend sweep over Cowichan Valley and Surrey.

“We’re starting to see the guys come together and find a way to win whether it be coming from behind or holding a lead,” said Assistant Coach Kurt Astle.

The team’s been led by their Captain, Kevan Kilistoff, who leads the team with 38 points in 33 games this season.

“It’s nice to find the back of the net but more importantly it’s nice to see the team score and get some confidence,” he said.

The last time these two division rivals met was back on October 30 when the Rivermen came away victorious, 5-2 at the LEC. Forward Ben Butcher scored twice and added two assists, while Kilistoff assisted three times. Goaltender Bo Didur stopped 23 shots in the win. The Rivermen hold a 2-0-0-1 record versus the Spruce Kings this year.

Prince George has struggled as of late, losing three straight games, including a 5-1 loss on their home ice against Cowichan Valley. Third year forward Jeremiah Luedtke leads the Spruce Kings with 40 points (11g, 29a) in 33 games. Justin Rai, who started the season red hot, has cooled down and also been hit by the injury bug, as he’s played 8 games but still has 31 points in 25 games.

The Rivermen hold a four point lead over Prince George for second place in the Mainland Division will look to extend it heading into the holiday break.

“This is another important stretch for us,” said Astle. “The guys are used to playing these three games in three days and its key for us to start strong and get production from all our guys.”

Fans get into today’s game free, thanks to Rivmas. For the last three home games before the Christmas break, fans will receive free admission to each game and a five dollar food or merchandise voucher to use at the game.
