Rivermen Lose Third Straight

Langley, BC – The Rivermen drop their third game in a row as they fall 4-3 to the Prince George Spruce Kings in Thursday night BCHL action (November 21). They now fall 3 points back of the Spruce Kings for first in the BCHL Mainland Division but they still hold a game in hand. The Rivermen are now 14-9-1-2 on the season.

It was another game where the Rivermen got off to a rough start, as they gave up a goal just 2 minutes into the opening period. It was a weak goal that got past Steve Myland short side to start the game which put the Rivermen behind yet again. Myland did however bounce back after his rocky start and was solid the rest of the way stopping 23 of 27 shots.

The Rivermen got a few breaks of their own in this one as Spruce Kings goaltender Jesse Jenks let in a few weak goals of his own. If the Rivermen were able to generate a few more quality scoring chances the outcome could have been different. In the end it was the Rivermen’s struggles on the defensive end that sealed the win for the Spruce Kings.

In the final frame the Rivermen found themselves in a situation they’ve been far too familiar with of late, as they were down a goal with a couple minutes to play. This time there was no hero for the Rivermen as they couldn’t find the back of the net in the dying seconds to tie the game and send it to overtime.

There were few bright spots for the Rivermen in this one as James Robinson found the back of the net in his first game back after missing a couple weeks with injury and Marcus Vela continues to stay hot as he potted his 7 goal of the season. Vela’s scored 6 goals in his last 6 games as the Burnaby, BC native continues to improve with each game he plays.

The Rivermen will be back in action tomorrow night when they face-off against the Salmon Arm SilverBacks at the Langley Events Centre, puck drops at 7:15pm. It’s also Hockey Fights Cancer night at the LEC tomorrow night (November 22) so show off your moustache and wear your pink to support the cause. Partial ticket proceeds will be donated to the Canadian Cancer Society.
