Rivermen Steamroll Express

Langley, BC – The Rivermen broke out of their goal scoring slump in a big way Thursday night (October 24) as they potted 12 goals a big  win over the Coquitlam Express. With the 12-2 victory the Rivermen remain atop the BCHL Mainland Division with a record of 10-5-1-1 and also improve to 4-1 in their season series against the Express.

It was a hard week of practice for the Rivermen but it paid off in a huge way as they exploded offensively after having a tough time scoring in their last few games. Brendan Gulka got the Rivermen on the board just before the 10 minute mark with his first BCHL goal of his career. Tony Bretzman continued the trend of firsts as he potted his first goal of his career on the power play just a couple minutes later.

The trend of firsts didn’t stop there as Marcus Vela scored the first BCHL goal of his career in the second period to give the Rivermen a 6-0 lead. The goal was originally waved off but they later ruled it a good goal which brought a huge smile to Vela’s face as he had been getting his chances of late.

The Rivermen never really slowed down in this one as they entered the third period up 7-0 and ended up adding another 5 goals in the final period. There were 14 different Rivermen players that found the score sheet tonight as it was a total team effort and clearly their strongest offensive performance of the season thus far. Another big plus for the Rivermen was their improvement on the power play that went 3 for 6, which should provide a boost of confidence to a power play that had been struggling over the last few games.

The Rivermen will be back in action on Saturday night (October 26) as the host the West Kelowna Warriors on Trick or Suite Night at the Langley Events Centre, puck drops at 7:15pm. For more details on Trick Suite Night visit www.langleyrivermen.com
