Dunphy’s Dual Citizenship, Size, and Skillset Bring Unique Advantage
Langley, BC – July 31, 2023 – The Langley Rivermen are thrilled to welcome a towering new presence to their defence line with the signing of Brendan Dunphy for the 2023/2024 season. A native of San Diego, California, with dual USA and Canadian citizenship, Dunphy brings a unique blend of size, skill, and on-ice intelligence to the Rivermen’s roster.
Head Coach Burt Henderson shared his optimism about the new recruit. “Dunphy’s towering presence and ability to contribute on both ends of the ice make him a key addition to our defence. We’re confident that he will fit in perfectly with our team and make a significant impact,” said Henderson.
At 6’5″ and 205 lbs, Dunphy is an imposing figure on the ice, using his size effectively in both offensive and defensive situations. His stats with the Anaheim Jr. Ducks 16U AAA team and La Jolla Country Day School team indicate his all-around capabilities, with his most recent season boasting an impressive 51 points.
Tyler Kuntz, Associate Head Coach, also commented on Dunphy’s addition, “Brendan comes to us from a very successful 16U program with Alex Kim and the Anaheim Ducks. They had a very good team last year and were deep on talented defensemen. Had originally committed to Wenatchee and has family ties to the BC area. Brendan has great size, is very mobile and an excellent puck mover. He had a great showing for USA Hockey at the BioSteel camp finishing 2nd place for the Pacific District. He is young and developing and offers us a player that will grow through our program and prepare him for the challenges of NCAA hockey.”
